Jesus showed the Samaritan woman that she had a spiritual thirst that could not be quenched no matter how often she drew water from the deepest and freshest wells in this world. Jesus first challenges the religious and ethnic barriers between Jews and Samaritans. Then he confronts here with the promise of water that wells up in the soul to eternal life. Finally, he reveals himself as the Christ who ushers in the end of the world and restores all things to God. Confronted with Jesus, the woman is freed from her past, her empty religion, and her thirst for God.
