The Emptiness of Envy

The opposite of envy is not the absence of desire; it is the sense of complete satisfaction and fulfillment. In today’s passage the Teacher of Ecclesiastes shows us that if there is such a thing as a friendship without envy it does not exist in this world. Once again, the Teacher presses us to look for hope from above. God provides this friendship that satisfies our souls in Jesus Christ, who does not envy us but devotes his whole being to bringing us deep fulfillment and joy.
